What Is An Eyewear Styling Consultation?

What Is An Eyewear Styling Consultation?

At Mincher Lockett & Co. Opticians we offer FREE eyewear styling consultations. So if you are someone who really struggles to know what suits you, or you are someone who is looking for something completely different, we can help you find eyewear that you love!

A styling consultation begins with finding out about you, your glasses and your lifestyle and then we go on to complete a fun questionnaire to find out about your style personality.

What Is Your Style Personality?

Your style personality dictates everything you do in life, from the clothes you wear, to the car you drive, the pets you choose and the holidays you go on.  In terms of eyewear it’s what makes me love bright dramatic frames and my sister prefer understated elegance, even though we have very similar colouring and face shapes!

The purpose of discovering your style personality is so you can build your confidence in wearing the right eyewear styles to suit you. It also helps us choose eyewear which reflects who YOU are and enhances your overall image.

Once we have discovered your style personality we take into account your colouring type…..

What Is Your Colouring Type?

We assess your colour type by using the internationally renowned Colour Me Beautiful system of the six dominants to help you find your most flattering eyewear colours.

Colours which will enhance your overall appearance, helping you look younger, fresher and healthier!

And finally we do a facial and feature analysis

What Is Facial And Feature Analysis?

Firstly we analyse your face and make key observations of length, width and even look at the shape of your features such as your brow line. We realise that most people do not fit into an exact face shape so we have devised a more individual method of helping your discover your best frame shapes– tailoring our advice specifically to you!

A Selection Of Frames Just For You!

We will then hand select 6-8 frames which fulfil all the criteria above, taking out all the hassle of choosing eyewear. In most cases the frame/frames you love are in this selection. Many of our clients enjoy having multiple pairs to match their different looks and the different things they do in life.

Can I Bring A Friend?

Absolutely! We are very happy for you to bring along a friend. You could even book in for a joint consultation and make it a fun day of choosing great eyewear!

Who Conducts My Styling Consultation?

Our small friendly team are all fully qualified Dispensing Opticians or Optometrists who have in depth clinical, frame and lens knowledge. In addition each member is also trained in colour analysis, style and image by owner Optometrist Eva Dave who is also an Image consultant with Europe’s leading Image consultancy Colour Me Beautiful. Eva has been through extensive colour and style training and has created a unique eyewear styling consultation which we use at Mincher Lockett and Co.Opticians. In addition Eva also helps to train image consultants and Optical professionals across the U.K. in how to style their clients in eyewear and also makes regular presentations on eyewear and style.

Top Titfers

In celebration of this week’s Royal Ascot, and ahead of our hat and eyewear styling event on Saturday at Oakley Hall, we have put together a selection of our favourite hat and eyewear pairings to show you how to look your finest for the races, or any special occasion.

Top tips for hats and glasses

SIZE

  • Choose hats and glasses which compliment your natural scale. I.e if you are petite with small features avoid large wide brimmed hats and oversized or heavy eyewear. Hat brims should not extend beyond the shoulders.

SHAPE

  • Complement your hat and glasses with the shapes in your outfit . If you are wearing soft flowy fabrics, choose a hat and glasses in softer shapes. A more structured outfit, choose a more structured hat and glasses.

  • If you have a narrow forehead avoid down sloping hat brims and instead chose hats that are smaller and worn on the side. If you have a deeper forehead – a down sloping brim would look fabulous with some gorgeous oversized sunglasses giving you that iconic Audrey Hepburn glamour

COLOUR

  • Choose your hat and eyewear in colours which will complement your natural colouring and  work with the colours of your outfit. As you get a little older avoid dark hats and glasses in blacks and browns which will cast shadows on the face and highlight your lines.
  • Don’t be afraid to make your hat or eyewear a completely different colour to the rest of your outfit. Hats and glasses which match the colour of your outfit exactly can look contrived whereas a complementary or contrasting colour can add interest and imagination to an outfit.

PERSONALITY!

Accessory’s like hats and glasses are the perfect way to add your personality to your outfit! If you are fun and creative and want to really make a bold statement then go for it with a fun hat and oversized detailed glasses! But if you prefer too ooze a more quieter sophisticated glamour then choose eyewear that’s a little more understated to complement your hat!

Remember Both hats and glasses have the ability to turn a simple outfit into something really special.

Exclusive Offer!

We have teamed up with the amazing Shropshire based, Rebecca Jones Hat Hire, to offer you the exclusive opportunity to attend our hat and eye wear styling event, taking place this Saturday 23rd June at Oakley Hall from 2 pm to 5pm.

You are cordially invited to join us for an illustrated guide on how to match your hat, outfit and eye wear for any special occasion followed by a celebratory afternoon tea with fizz in the splendour of the Queen Anne Mansion, Oakley Hall.

Both Eva and Rebecca will be available all afternoon for bespoke and tailored advice in how to create the perfect look in matching eye wear and hats to compliment your unique styling personality.
Rise to the occasion and join us for a wonderful afternoon of ladies fashion and fizz!

Free to attend but you must RSVP to be able to attend to mincherlockettopticians@gmail.com

Ssshhhhh – Six Secrets to looking Stunning In Your Eyewear- Tip 6

Are you looking for a new pair of glasses but struggling to know which frames suit you best?

You are not alone. Many people struggle to know which frames flatter them when choosing fabulous eyewear. This is why all of our team at Mincher Locket and Co, Opticians in Market Drayton have dedicated style training in addition to clinical, so we can best help you discover the perfect eyewear for you.

To help you, we are going to share our six secret hints on how to look and feel great in your eyewear over the next few days- but sssshhhh, don’t tell anyone else!

Six Top Tips to looking Stunning in Your Eyewear

TIP 6

Express Your Personality!

This is the last of my top six tips and is the most important! Your eyewear sits in the centre of your face for everyone to see & it should be an extension of you. Therefore, not only should it complement your colouring and facial features – as we have mentioned in previous tips – but should also be perfectly placed to help express who you are.

There are six main different style personalities and most of us will be dominant in two or more of these depending on our lifestyle, hobbies and working environment. Each personality prefers a different look in their eyewear and it is the reason your best friend may love bright wacky clothes/eyewear, whilst you may prefer something more understated.

It’s important that you feel like yourself in your new glasses and purchasing your new eyewear should feel as good as purchasing a brand new outfit, making you stand up tall and feel fantastic!

At Mincher-Lockett & Co. Opticians, we take the time to discover your unique style personality and present you with a selection of frames from our collection of over 1000- which will be perfect for you! We are the only practice in the UK who will endeavour to do this!

Dramatic Eyewear Personality – Creating drama with bright/high contrast colour combinations and extreme fashion forward shapes are key for you!

Ssshhhhh – Six Secrets to looking Stunning In Your Eyewear – Tip 5

Are you looking for a new pair of glasses but struggling to know which frames suit you best?

You are not alone. Many people struggle to know which  frames flatter them when choosing fabulous eyewear. This is why all of our team at Mincher Locket and Co, Opticians in Market Drayton have dedicated style training in addition to clinical, so we can best help you discover the perfect eyewear for you.

Six Top Tips to looking Stunning In Your Eyewear

TIP 5

Highlight Your Best Features!

One of the great things about using eyewear as an accessory is that you can really use it to enhance your very best features. It can also be used to minimise some of the areas you are not quite so keen on too!

Do you have cheekbones to die for?  Then you can really show them off with frames that angle up at your cheekbones to accentuate that line. A cat eye can be a great choice for the ladies, it also draws the eyes upwards creating an instant face lift.

Here’s a great example of a frame (from our BOZ eyewear collection) which really accentuates all the angles in the models face, allowing her cheekbones to really stand out! If you are not quite this brave, a frame with a subtle, soft uplift would work well too.

Boz glasses

Eyes

Do you get complimented on your striking eyes? You can really accentuate your eyes and make them dazzle by matching a frame with some of your subtle colour detail in your eyes.

This is a great example of a frame which really highlights the models striking eyes. Notice how the subtle greens, browns, orange and yellow tones in her natural eye colour are being echoed in the frame -making her eyes really stand out.

The Ultimate Guide to Rocking Glasses With Your Wedding Outfit

In case you missed the big news, we have just had a Royal Wedding! But it’s not only Harry and Meghan who are tying the knot this May, we also have some very special clients getting married locally who we have been helping style their eyewear ahead of their big day.

Are you eyewear ready?

Getting married, or being a guest at a wedding, can sometimes feel a little overwhelming and especially when we are faced with so much choice about what to wear. Getting ready for the big day is often a mix of excitement and trepidation, especially if formality is not the norm for you.

You’ve probably put a lot of thought into your perfect outfit; buying a brand new dress, matching the handbag, hat and shoes – or suit if you are a man – as well as your jewellery. But can you really wear the same old pair of glasses you’ve had for years for the big day? We think not!

So, what are your options?

Some choose to forgo glasses altogether choosing instead to see the day through in a misty haze whilst others may opt for contact lenses, which can be a great option. However, do be aware that contact lenses may not be the best choice for the emotional moment during the ‘I-do vows’ at the ceremony. Crying, getting something in your eye, or even developing an allergic reaction due to high nerves, could be a real hindrance, and so we recommend having some gorgeous glasses too!

“Spec-cessorise”

After making all that effort on your outfit, any old glasses just will not do! Embrace your eyewear on the big day and make it your most important accessory. More and more brides, and their guests, are choosing to proudly “Spec-essorise” on their special day, so you can too!

But which frames do you choose?

Here’s my advice:-

TREAT YOUR GLASSES AS JEWELLERY

Think of your glasses as jewellery and make them a real feature. Treat yourself to a brand new beautiful frame which enhances your complexion, highlights your best features, harmonises with your outfit, and most importantly expresses who you are!

Below are some examples of different outfits and eyewear styles which would compliment them.

Strike A Pose – Elegant Sophistication

If you prefer to dress in luxurious fabrics with simple clean lines and not too much fuss, consider a high quality, delicate, refined metal, or smooth finished acetate frame in a classic shape with just a hint of embellishment to honour the occasion, and to give an overall look of understated elegance.

Outfit Idea- nude tailored tuxedo jumpsuit from Karen Millen

Eyewear

The epitome of elegant sophistication . This gorgeous frame would look just beautiful from our Volte Face range.

Prefer something a little more striking? This beautiful SOSPIRI frame in a classic shape with some subtle glitz on the upper rim would fit the bill nicely.

Fall in love – The Romantic Spirit

If you adore romance with dainty frills, embellishments, soft floral tones and flowing silks, then incorporate this into your eyewear. Floral embellishments, glitz and sparkle are ideal for you. The more glitz the better- don’t hold back. After all, this is the perfect occasion!

Outfit idea -Peplum Hem Lace dress Karen Millen

Eyewear

Express your elegant femininity in our beautiful silhouette luxury rimless range

Or if you are feeling a bit braver? Try our limited edition Francis Klein eyewear, sparkle and glitz galore, perfect for a special occasion or just because….

Well Heeled – The Scene Stealer

Or maybe you are going for the wow factor, with nothing understated about your outfit on the day.  Perhaps you are going for dramatic high heels and non traditional colours and styles. Consider then using your eyewear as a real statement piece in a bright colour which matches your killer heels, hand bag and outfit – you really will get noticed!

Outfit Idea- Rehanna Embroidered cap orange skater dress. Ted Baker

Eyewear

Stand out from the crowd and make a statement in this high contrast cat eye frame- another of our limited edition pieces from Francis Klein!

Vintage Vixen – The Nostalgic Spirit

Or maybe you are drawn to the vintage look; a 1950s tea dress will look fabulous with a glamorous extreme upswept cat eye frame which is so on trend right now, If you prefer the 30s and 40s look, go for a rounder style – again, right on trend!

Outfit Idea – 1950’s halterneck cherry white- Vivien of Holloway

Eyewear

Embrace your vintage chic with a modern twist with our amazing Boz eyewear frame!

Easy does it –  Eau so Natural

Ok, so getting dressed up to the nines is way out of your comfort zone. However, it’s a special occasion and you are expected to make the effort. You may feel happier in a trouser suit, or dress that’s not too tightly fitted with low heeled shoes. If this is the case, consider using your eyewear as the accessory to glam up your look a little. Comfort and durability are of prime importance for you, so choose something which feels great, looks simple in design but has a little sparkle or colour.

Outfit idea- Navy Clarissa Jumpsuit -Boden

Eyewear

Add just a touch of glamour with our gorgeous Volte Face frame. Comfortable and durable with some interesting layers of colour- this will take you from day to night with ease.

And for the men

A high quality refined metal, smooth finished acetate, or rimless in a classic shape, would look stunning with a classic suit. Or you could choose to make a statement in a thicker rimmed Hollywood geek-chic style. Or, if you are feeling really daring, why not match your eyewear with the colours in your statement suit, bow tie or pocket square?

Outfit  Idea– Mayfair tuxedo Reiss

Eyewear

The Geek chic look- this sexy SALT frame will be sure to have the lady’s hearts racing when teamed with a black tailored slim fit suit!

Looking for a more Sophisticated look?- This great semi rimless titanium frame from our Roy Robson eyewear collection would work really well!

Outfit Idea. Debonair slim fit plain wool suit. Ted Baker

Eyewear

Want to show your more creative side and really make a style statement? Then this fab blue, on trend round from our JFREY collection will be sure to make you stand out for all the right reasons!

Six Top Tips to looking Stunning In Your Eyewear

TIP 4

Size Does Matter!

As much as we may be persuaded otherwise, when it comes to eyewear- size really does matter!  And when I’m talking about size, I’m mainly talking about width.

The ideal frame should be as wide as the widest part of your face, any smaller and the frames will appear to add weight to your face and this is one of the biggest mistakes we see being made. It’s similar to a clothing faux pas – if you want to look slimmer -stay away from those trousers that are a size to small!

mens blue glasses

Here’s an example of Sam in frames that are slightly too narrow in width. This creates the appearance of adding more weight to his cheek area.

mens designer glasses

Heres Sam in slightly wider frames, which are as wide as the widest part of his face. This makes his face appear more chiselled and slimmer!

Meet South African Eyewear Designer David Green

Our exclusive interview with South African Eyewear designer, David Green

We were delighted to recently host the entrepreneurial eyewear Designer, David Green, at our practice earlier this month for the launch of his exclusive ‘David Green Eyewear collection’.

David, who lives in Capetown, South Africa, is currently leading the way in the eyewear industry for his commitment to green technology, environmental sustainability and nature. His exclusive and bespoke handmade frames, are carefully crafted to reflect the purity & colour of their environment, using materials such as leaves and reeds to reflect unique individuality, comfort and style.

The Team at Mincher-Lockett & Co Opticians with David Green!

We took the opportunity to ask David all about his collection and where his inspiration comes from. To find out more, read our exclusive interview here:-

So David where did your inspiration come from to create your own eyewear collection?

I am constantly inspired by the beauty of nature – from forests to oceans, to the trees and their foliage; there is no substitute for the shapes and colours that are delivered by natural things. One only has to walk in nature to admire the majesty and intricacies of natural world.

What makes David Green different to anything else out there?

Each pair of handcrafted David Green eyewear frames contains a unique fingerprint created by the inclusion of a real fallen leaf or reed piece of real nature. The authenticity combined with innovation of this product is unrivalled within the eyewear industry.

Who would enjoy David Green eyewear/ who is it for?

My bespoke eyewear is ideal for people who want an update of themselves, and who desire to express a point of view about the environment, and the world in which they live. Protecting the planet and our environment is of vital importance & our eyewear reflects a commitment towards the preservation of the world we inhabit.

Tell us about your passion for the environment and nature and the importance of this in your designs and material you use?

I have a real passion for the environment, which stems from a critical awareness to protect the fragile balance that exists within nature. I use real wild leaves and tree reeds that have fallen and which are then collected and dyed in various colours, using natural vegetable dyes. Each and every leaf and reed is checked by hand before being selected to be placed within a David Green frame. All materials used are natural including natural cotton based acetate. Metal components are certified to contain no harmful substances.

Tell me about yourself; what do you enjoy doing most in all the world?

Walking in a forest with my wife, my two daughters and my beagle.

Where is your favourite place to visit?

The Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

How have you found the U.K, and in particular your visit to Mincher-Lockett & Co?

The spirit of England and your team Mincher Lockett and Co is so admirable. When you visit your opticians, one immediately feels the warm hospitality and a relaxed environment in which to make choices that you feel confident in.The result is eyewear that brings out the best version of yourself!

Thank you to David Green who is not only a wonderful person and exceptional eyewear designer, but also read palms, pretty accurately too! It was a real pleasure to meet him.

Six Top Tips to looking Stunning In Your Eyewear – Tip 3

Are you looking for a new pair of glasses but struggling to know which frames suit you best?

Six Top Tips to looking Stunning In Your Eyewear

TIP 3

Open your eyes!

Our eyes, which immediately connect us to others by bringing their faces into high resolution, are a key component in our evolutionary history. Effective communication through eye-to-eye contact is paramount in understanding each other in a busy and sometimes dangerous world. Keeping your whole eye visible through your lenses aids better communication and helps support clear and effective expression.

Therefore choosing clear and visible lenses which frame our whole eye, is important, creating an open and inviting look. There is nothing worse than a pair of glasses that sit too low, or are too narrow in depth and appear to cut off the eyes creating a barrier to communication!best designer glasses

Above is a great example from our Jfrey collection. The model’s eyes are clearly visible in the centre of the frame creating an openess to his look.

glasses to suit my face

What not to do! The upper rim of the actresses frame sits right on her eye line, which not only reduces her vision but also creates a barrier to communication making her appear less open. This was a common mistake in the 90’s and 2000’s when all the frames went super small!

Ssshhhhh – Six Secrets to looking Stunning In Your Eyewear – Tip 2

Are you looking for a new pair of glasses but struggling to know which frames suit you best?

You are not alone. Many people struggle to know which  frames flatter them when choosing fabulous eyewear. This is why all of our team at Mincher Locket and Co Opticians in Market Drayton have dedicated style training in addition to clinical, so we can best help you discover the perfect eyewear for you.

To help you, over the next few weeks we are going to share our six top tips and secrets hints on how to look and feel great in your eyewear – but sssshhhh, don’t tell anyone else!

TOP TIP – Number 2 – Follow The Brow!

Eyebrows are hot right now in the world of fashion, with many people turning to microblading and creating ‘high definition’ brows for a more dramatic look.

So top tip number two is to find eyewear which follows the natural shape of your browline for a more harmonious look

Soft curved browline

best designer glasses

Above is a great example of one of our CCS  luxury Italian eyewear brands. It perfectly follows the shape of the models brow, working with her natural facial contours and opening up her eyes.

Straight Browline

best uk opticians

Here is a great example of one of our Roy Robson wood eyewear pieces working perfectly with the models naturally straighter brow line.

Eyewear Makeover!

Here’s a fab example from a recent eyewear makeover we did with new client Janet.

Janet, predominantly a contact lens wearer loved the idea of glasses but always hated them on herself. She wanted to change this so travelled 222 miles to us for an eyewear makeover!

WRONG!- Going Against Natural Brow

designer glasses

This image shows the half dog chewed frames (sorry Janet!) she hated to be seen out in. The frame, on the narrow side, does not follow her natural soft curved brow line, creating a little conflict and imbalance on her face.

RIGHT – Working With The Natural Brow

glasses suit my face

This striking image shows her wearing her brand new stunning eyewear which harmonises with her natural browline , shows off her stunning eyes and works perfectly with her classic/dramatic style personality!

To sum up, following the natural shape of your browline with your eyewear creates a natural balance and harmony to your look, enhancing your appearance and opening up your eyes.

To help you, over the next few weeks we are going to share our six top tips and secrets hints on how to look and feel great in your eyewear- but sssshhhh, don’t tell anyone else!

Our Six Secrets to help you Look Stunning In Your Eyewear

TIP 1

Don’t be afraid of colour! This is my very first tip as I believe it is one of the most important ones:  The correct colour against your skin tone, really has the ability to dramatically enhance your appearance. Many people stick to black and brown shades because they feel safe, but these colours can begin to appear harsh against the skin, especially as we age.

It’s far better to think of your eyewear as make up for the face and find a great colour which enhances your eyes, brightens up your complexion and works with three or four of your favourite wardrobe colours at the same time!

Here are two unedited pictures taken of me at the same time, in the same make up and trying to recreate the same pose. They show you the differences between the wrong and right way to choose your colours!

THE WRONG COLOUR- PALE MUTED BLUE!

Crystal eyewear is very on trend right now but unfortunately it does not work with my colouring. Because my look is contrasting – porcelain skin with dark hair and bright eyes –  I need to wear colours that balance this. I look far better and healthier in bright vivid colours or a striking contrast of dark and light. Muted or pale colours, as shown above, make me look too pale and ill (even the lines in my forehead and around my eyes are more visible- ARGH!)

A softer, paler colour like the one above would work really well on someone with lighter colouring and less contrast to their look.

THE RIGHT COLOUR- VIVID BLUE!

The Bright jewel-like colours work far better with the natural contrast between my skin, hair and eyes. Notice how my complexion looks clearer, my eyes stand out more and the lines around my eyes and forehead are less obvious. And hopefully I don’t look quite as ill!

If your natural colouring is much softer and you don’t have the same contrast between hair, skin and eyes, this colour may overpower you. You would be far better to choose softer tones and colours.

To sum up, colour is king when choosing your specs. Whether bold and bright, or soft and tonal, the right colour on your face can really make or break your look!
